2025-2026 HOME INSTRUCTION
PARENT & STUDENT GUIDELINES
1. School supplies are the responsibility of the parent. The homebound instructor provides the textbooks, assignments and instruction.
2. Home instruction sessions must take priority with the parent and the student. Student work schedules or outside of school activities should not take priority over home instruction sessions.
3. During the instructional period:
★ Members of the family should refrain from entering the instructional area to minimize distractions.
★ A quiet setting without TV or radio will enhance the learning experience for your child. (Please provide a quiet and clean environment.)
★ In order to maintain a healthy atmosphere for students and instructors, please refrain from smoking in the house during the home instruction session.
★ If there is a health or hygiene issue in your home, the home instructor reserves the right to refuse home instruction in the home until the situation can be remedied.
★ If it is mutually agreed by the parent and the home instructor to conduct the lessons in an alternate setting (i.e., the town library), transportation is the responsibility of the parent. Failure to drop-off and/or pick-up the student at the agreed upon time, may result in the withdrawal of home instruction.
4. Independent home study is essential for the student to maintain his/her grades. It is the student’s responsibility, under the supervision of the parent/guardian, to complete the work which has been assigned. A lack of effort in completing work may result in failing grades.
Therefore, the parent/guardian is also responsible for:
★ Assuring the student will be available, appropriately dressed, and ready to participate in home instruction at the pre-scheduled time agreed upon by the parent and home instructor. Failure to meet the scheduled appointment could be deemed a violation of compulsory education laws pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:38-25 through 31.
★ Establishing a daily schedule that provides a specific time and place in the home where the student can work independently on his/her assignments.
★ Checking that daily assignments are completed. This will demonstrate to your child that you are genuinely interested in his/her performance and future success.

NOTE: N.J.A.C. 16:10.2 (e) - If instruction is delivered in the student’s home, a parent or other adult 21 years of age or older who has been designated by the parent shall be present during all periods of home instruction. Refusal or failure by a parent to participate or to be present in the home as required in this subchapter may be deemed a violation of compulsory education laws and child neglect laws, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 9:6-1 et seq. Failure to observe these guidelines may result in the withdrawal of the Home Instruction.
