The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act is a federal law ensuring homeless children and youth have equal access to a free, appropriate public education by providing immediate school enrollment, transportation to their school of origin, and support for academic success, regardless of whether they have required documents. The law defines "homeless" broadly to include children living in motels, shelters, cars, parks, or temporarily doubled-up with others due to economic hardship or loss of housing.
